Skipper`s sweet and sour season

"If you look back at games, we missed three points too often but it is good to retain our place in this league.

Andy Geggan will watch the final match of the season from the sidelines and back in December that is also where he viewed the match at Palmerston, although on that occasion he was on the bench on his way back after injury. He has therefore had plenty of time to review the performances of Queen of the South, he commented:-

"They have done well in this league again and at one point I thought they would finish in the play offs. They took a dip, changed managers but gone on to do well.

"Derek Lyle and Stephen Dobbie are very good players and as a team they are very organised. They are a stuffy, difficult team to play against."

The artificial surface should be no disadvantage claimed Andy since Dunfermline train on that every day.

"I think the artificial grass in Dumfries is very good, the only problem is my ankle has not recovered from that tackle from Mark Kerr. I will be out for the game, the ankle is a lot better now but I have not tried twisting and turning it. I am better just leaving it."

Gary McColl the club`s sports scientist has advised the club captain to lay off it for ten days but has issued him with a close season programme to maintain his fitness.

"Once I get my confidence back in my ankle I will be out running. Every summer is difficult and it`s easy to go off the rails but at the same time you need to be dedicated, stick to your training and go to the gym."

Andy will be 30 on Monday so he has a few pre seasons under his belt now, he remarked:-

"It is the same every year and then you come back to pre season, that`s the gruelling part."

Andy`s assessment of his season - "not too bad".

"I was playing midfield at the start, I was flying in the first four games, scoring goals and then somehow I ended up playing right back. I have never moved since.

"As a team, first time in this league for four years, I think we have done well, we have established ourselves now and could have done a lot better had it not been for all these draws. If you look back at games we missed three points too often but it is good to retain our place in this league.

"At the start of the season with new players, we were still trying to find the right team. There were matches we did not finish games off like we should be. In every game we have always had a chance to win and come away with the three points."

Geggs has made 195 appearances for Dunfermline and his five goals this season takes his club total to 31. He added:-

"People say establish yourself in this league and then kick on the next but we could have kicked on this season. These draws have killed us off. We could have made the play offs and had a chance.

"We had the confidence to go and beat teams to stay in this league. Next season is a big year, if we can do it next season it will be brilliant."
